Chapter 21-Secret Plans ****REWRITE****

Hello!! Sorry it took me MONTHS to re-write this!!!!!!!!!!!! Please enjoy!!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was finally the Christmas holidays, and I was on my skiing trip with Tegan and Jade. It was supposed to be fun; I’d been looking forward to it since the beginning of December. The only thing that was stopping me from enjoying myself was Sylvie’s words pounding in my head. Game on. What was that supposed to mean? I had told Alec about it, and he got all concerned and way overprotective, and wouldn’t let me go anywhere without him for two weeks. Can you imagine showering knowing that there’s a guy outside the door if anything goes wrong? I mean, what goes wrong in the fricking shower? I slip and fall, crack my head open, it heals, but then some dude who works for Damien gets past Alec and takes me away while I’m still wet and naked? Who would do that? It’s sick and twisted. I mean, I don’t even like the thought of a rubber duck looking at me while I’m bathing, let alone a twisted weirdo who works for Damien. On the bright side, at least Alec was on the outside of the bathroom…
Anyways, we had been skiing for two hours and were taking a break in “The Lodge” when my phone rang. It was Alec.
“Hey.”
“Hi, um, is there any chance you could get to the abandoned house on Young Street in 30 minutes?”
“Alec…” I groaned.
“It’s really important.”
“Fine then.” I got off the phone.
“Who was that?” Jade asked.
“Alec. Listen, I have to go meet him back in Carleton Place. Apparently, it’s important. So can you tell Tegan that I had to go?”
“Say no more. I’ll cover for you.”
The abandoned house on Young Street was nice; tall and white with a Victorian-style wooden door and flower beds with roses surrounding the concrete front steps. I slowly turned the doorknob. The door was unlocked, so I just walked in.
“Hello?” No answer. I started walking down the hallway, looking around.
“Is anyone here? Alec?” Someone tapped me on the shoulder.
“Nope.” Katherine smiled as she circled around me.
“What are you doing here? Where’s Alec?”
“Here.” He came out from another room.
“What is she doing here?” I snapped.
“I can explain-”
“I’m here to help.” Katherine danced around a coffee table in the next room.
“Okay, so what’s the real reason?”
“I am honestly here to help. Is that so hard to believe?”
“Yes, yes it is.” She rolled her eyes and started walking upstairs. Alec and I followed her into a room with a couch and a bunch of bookshelves; probably the last owner’s private library. He sat down on the edge of the coffee table.
“So, what was so important that I had to leave a well-deserved ski trip with my best friends?”
“We’re planning what’ll happen in the summer when Damien comes for you.”
“Oh.” Up until now, I’d never really thought about the sacrifice, because it just made me scared. It had seemed like some sort of ghost story you told at a summer camp or just an old wives tale meant to scare people. But now that it was getting closer and closer, it became more and more real. It’s sort of like when your teacher gives you an assignment due in a week, and you don’t do it because you think you have loads of time, but then it comes to the night before the assignment’s due, and you start freaking out because you haven’t done anything, except about ten times worse. Katherine gave me a look of sympathy, but I wasn’t sure if it was really sympathy or just a realization that when I died, so would she.
“Are you okay?” Alec asked, and it was then that I realized that I had been sitting on the window seat staring blankly at him and Katherine for the past five minutes.
“Oh, um, yeah. Never better.” Hell no, you idiot. I’m about to get used as a human-er, vampire- sacrifice. The moment I thought it I regretted it, because Alec shifted in his seat and gave me an apologetic look. He was obviously concerned about the sacrifice too.
“What’s with all the sorrowful looks and tension in this room?” Katherine asked. Alec rolled his eyes.
“Could you be serious for, like, five minutes?” he asked.
“Nope.” Katherine smirked.
“You know what, if you’re not even going to help, if you don’t care, then-”
“Guys!” I stood up abruptly. “We’re not going to accomplish anything if you two keep bickering.”
“She’s got a point.” Katherine added. I turned to Alec. Please stop, I thought.
“Fine.” He grumbled. “Okay, back on the subject of Damien. I’ve arranged with a few of my friends who’ve quit working for Damien to provide safe houses across the US. Their names are Nathaniel, Cecile, and Brannen. Cecile is going to meet us in New York, and Nathaniel and Brannen are going to meet us along the way. We’ll end up in Florida, and we’ll hide there. Do you understand?”
“Yeah, I think so.”
“That’s not exactly-”
“You’re not allowed to talk.” I snapped, a little too harshly. Katherine sighed, picked a book off of the shelf, lied down on the couch, and began to read.
“Anyways, we’re gonna need an unrecognizable vehicle. Damien knows what car I have, so we’ll need another one.”
“My dad has an old van. Its performance is…er…rather iffy, but it’s a car.” I said.
“Great. You’ll have to get a key from him, though. Do you think you could do that?”
“Um…Maybe?” I said, more like a question than a statement.
“Maybe?”
“My dad’s a vampire hunter.” Katherine burst out laughing.
“Your dad hunts vampires? When was the last time you physically saw him?”
“Um…a few months. Before I went camping with my mom and Dave. Before I turned.”
“Well, good luck with getting that car.” Katherine chuckled, flipping the page in her book.
“Just ignore her.” Alec said.
“Just ignore her.” Katherine mimicked quietly, rolling her eyes.
“Remember what I said about fighting?”
“You said bickering.” Katherine corrected.
“Whatever. Fighting, bickering, same diff. Either way, it’s not going to accomplish anything.” Just then, my cell phone beeped.
From: Jade
Where are you???? Tegan’s wondering and her parents are worried sick! I’ll tell them that you’re still out on the slopes, but it’ll only be so long before they find out you’re not there!
I slid my phone back into my pocket.
“That was Jade. I need to get back soon.” I said, giving Alec a look that said Get on with it already! I must have thought it too, because he rolled his eyes at me and chuckled silently.
“Fine. We’ll finish this some other time. I have things to do, anyways.” Alec came closer to me.
“Will you be okay?” he asked for the millionth time.
“Yes, I think I can manage to get back to a ski hill without being kidnapped by an evil goon.” He rolled his eyes at me again.
“We also have to work on your animal transformation later.” I had completely forgotten about that until now.
“Is that important?”
“Is it important?” Katherine chortled, “If you want to have any chance of surviving, then yes, it is important.” She shook her head, chuckling, as if I were a kindergartener who’d just asked how important it was to breathe. I went downstairs and Alec followed. I hugged him, inhaling his fragrant scent.
“Try to just ignore her.” He said.
“She’s more annoying than Nathen.” I said, recalling a time when Nathen was the only thing in the world that got on my nerves so much. Alec chuckled. As he left, my phone beeped again. I suspected it was probably Jade, as I hadn’t replied to her last message, but it wasn’t.
From: Katherine P.
Meet me back here later tonight. It’s very important. No joke. Don’t tell Alec.
Katherine came down the stairs, looked at me briefly, winked, and then left. A few seconds later I got another text.
From:Katherine P.
Don’t tell anyone.
Update
Hey!
Well, i'm sorry i haven't posted anything in awhile, but that's only 'cause i've been working on NAVLS and this Vampire Diaries Fan Fiction story...To be honest, i haven't even thought about The Hole in a week. Ok, but first things first...To anyone who reads this, you honestly have to watch The Hillywood Show's parodies...OMG they're hilarious. I've seen one on Twilight, Eclipse, The Runaways, and The Vampire Diaries, all of which are extremely accurate. Look them up on Youtube.
On another note, i think i might make another blog just for my little random updates like this one. Partly because you guys get annoyed when i don't post story, and partly because i need to have two separate blogs for two separate things.
Last night, i had the weirdest dream. I was in my dads house, saying something (but i'm not sure what) and for some odd reason, i looked like Nina Dobrev. Then i went upstairs and looked out the window. there was a paved road, and there was a weird parade float thing driving by with a bunch of Chinese guys in it. At first, my dad was like "ok, we'll just tell them to leave, they're foreign", but then they pulled out their chinese guns and started shooting, and my dad was all like "this is serious now, we have to get out" and all the chinese guys started coming into the house. Then, i was in a pool, and next to me were the characters Elena and Bonnie from The Vampire Diaries. Bonnie got shot in the back of the head, and suddenly we were in a pool, and Bonnie was sinking to the bottom. Elena was all sad, but then Bonnie came back to life and was all ok and Elena was happy. Then i was out of the pool (and apparently dry), and i was running towards the road, but then i saw Katherine from The Vampire Diaries running in a little kid's skirt, and then this girl in my friend Teagan's class was beside me, and she was, like, really short. Then i ran back to Katherine and gave her a hug (What the hell?)and i was acting all creepy, like "OMG Katherine's my new BFF" and i think she was getting a little creeped out, but she was more like the Katherine in my story than the Katherine from TVD, so she was a little ok with it. Then, Elena  was beside me, and we came up to my mom, but apparently she wasn't my mom, 'cause she asked if we were all sisters, and i said me and Katherine were but Elena was just there, and then we went into this weird restaurant place and Teagan was there, and i think she was all sad because i had found myself a new best friend (Deja Vu?). Oh, and i was kinna confused because i was taller than Katherine/Elena, and in real life i'm the same height as the girl who plays her.
Well, when i think of what it is i'm forgetting to tell you, i'll post it.
XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXO
Anyways, we had been skiing for two hours and were taking a break in “The Lodge” when my phone rang. It was Alec.
“Hey.”
“Hi, um, is there any chance you could get to the foreclosure on Young Street in 30 minutes?”
“Alec…” I groaned.
“It’s really important.”
“Fine then.” I got off the phone.
“Who was that?” Jade asked.
“Alec. Listen, I have to go meet him back in Carleton Place. Apparently, it’s important. Can you tell Tegan that I had to go?”
“Say no more. I’ll cover for you.”
Since I didn’t exactly know what a foreclosure was, I looked up “Carleton Place Foreclosures” on the internet and found the nicest one-hopefully that was the place we were meeting at. It was a nice house; tall and white with a Victorian-style wooden door and flower beds with roses surrounding the concrete front steps. I slowly turned the doorknob. The door was unlocked, so I just walked in.
“Hello?” No answer. I started walking down the hallway, looking around.
“So, what was so important that I had to leave a well-deserved ski trip with my best friends?”
“We’re discussing what’s going to happen when Damien decides to come get his doppelganger for the sacrifice. It’s supposed to happen on the summer solstice, so he’ll probably come to get you a few weeks before then.”
“Well, if you wanted-”
“Uh-uh. No. You’re not allowed to talk. Not after all the trouble your words have caused.” Katherine rolled her eyes, picked up a book off of the shelf, lied down on the couch, and began to read.
“Okay, so I’ve talked to few friends of mine, who have agreed to keep you in safe houses around the continent. They don’t know who you are, so I’ll bring some disguises so they don’t figure out that you’re the one Damien wants. First I’ll take you to Cecile, in New York State. Then Aimee in Pennsylvania, Nathaniel in Virginia, Thomas in North Carolina, Meghan in South Carolina, and William in Georgia. Got that?”
“I think so. Cecile, Aimee, Nathaniel, Thomas, Meghan, William. Is that right?”
“Yes. Okay, after William takes you to the safe house, his cousin Calvin will take you to the final safe house in Florida. Can you remember all that?”
“I’m pretty sure. Cecile in New York State will take me to Aimee in Pennsylvania, who’ll take me to Nathaniel in Virginia, who’s going to bring me to Thomas in North Carolina, then Meghan in South Carolina, and William in Georgia, who’s cousin Calvin is going to take me to the final safe house in Florida.”
“Great. Now, we’ll need more than just you and me going, so it won’t look weird.”
“Yes, because a bunch of kids running around America totally isn’t weird at all.” I said sarcastically. Alec rolled his eyes.
“I mean so that it’ll look like a school field trip or something.”
“Oh. Right. I guess Tegan might want to come, and maybe Jade… But you might want to find a few guys so you don’t look…you know... creepy.”
“Of course. I’ve been getting to know a couple guys in your class, Ryan and Sam. They think I’m a little weird, so I might need to use compulsion, but they both know how to drive, which could be an asset. And Katherine…Well, you wanted to help. What can you do?” Katherine looked up from her book slightly.
“Sorry, I’ve been silenced.” Alec rolled his eyes.
“Well, whatever she had to say doesn’t matter.” I said.
“Anyways, we’ll need a vehicle. Any suggestions?”
“My dad has a van, and I’m seeing him later this week. I could get a copy of the key.”
“Perfect. Well, I guess this meeting’s pretty much over.” I followed Alec downstairs.
“I have to go meet Cecile and talk about our plan for the summer. Do you need a ride back to the ski hill?”
“No, actually I think I’ll stick around and talk to Katherine.” Alec laughed.
“Good luck with that.” With that, he left. I dashed upstairs and took Katherine’s book away from her.
“That was a bold move, kiddo.” She joked.
“What is it?” I asked.
“What’s what?”
“The thing you’ve been wanting to say to me. What is it?” Katherine got up, snatched the book back from my hands, and put it back on the shelf.
“I don’t exactly agree with Alec’s plan.”
“How so?” I asked.
“Cecile-and most of Alec’s other “friends”- is working for Damien, which means she’s working to bring you to Damien, not safety.”
“Great.” I said sarcastically.
“You make it seem like you have another plan.”
“Well, I do.” Katherine chuckled.
“And that would be…”
“Okay, well, when Alec takes you to Cecile, you’re going to go off with me instead.”
“How’s that supposed to work?”
“Learn how to drive. Then, when Alec goes to get you to bring you to Cecile, you stab him with vervain dart and take the van to where I am.”
“Where will you be?”
“I’ll text you with the address when we actually get to that point. Right now, just focus on not telling Alec about our plans.”
“How am I supposed to do that when he can read minds?”
“Do what I did. Create a mind shield.”
“A mind-what?”
“Mind shield. I got Isobel to put a spell on my mind so that no one can get into it. I bet one of Isobel’s kids could help you with that, but until then try to avoid Alec.”
“How do I know I can trust you?”
“Because, if you get sacrificed, I get sacrificed. Why would I want you to get hurt?”
“Um, I don’t know, because you’re a sadistic witch with a capital B.” I smirked.
“Ha ha, very funny. Your eighth grade humor doesn’t faze me.” She rolled her eyes.
“Yeah, well…okay, I’ve got nothing. But still, how is this plan supposed to work?”
“Trust me, it will. But you can’t tell anyone, not even your friends. Don’t even say anything to your cat.”
“Why can’t I talk to my cat?”
“Because someone might overhear you. Don’t even write it in your diary.”
“What makes you think I have a diary?”
“Forget about the diary! Just don’t write it, don’t say it, and don’t think about it if you can help it!”
“Okay. Can I go now?” Katherine rolled her eyes and shook her head. I knocked a bunch of books off of the shelf with my mind.
“Well, I guess I can go, but it looks like you have a bit of cleaning to do.” I smirked and skipped out the door.
Chapter 20- More Complications EDIT
Listen here first i re-wrote this chapter...so tell me which one you like better! Adios!!!
-Kira
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I think Alec might have been about to pass out. He just stood there, frozen, as if he just saw Jesus Christ performing a miracle.
“Um, Alec?” he didn’t move.
“Alec? You in there?” I waved my hand in front of his face. “Hellooooo?” When he didn’t reply, I started to worry. Did I freak him out too much?
“Um…Can you say that again?” he finally asked
“Say what?”
“That…you love me?”
“Um, okay…?I…love you?”
“Now hit me.”
“What?”
“Hit me.”
“Um…okay?” I slapped him hard in the arm.
“Ow!”
“Well, I’m sorry, but you told me to!”
“No, it’s fine. And I’m not dreaming, unless that dream-hurt…” I stepped on his foot.
“Again, ow!”
“Was that a dream-hurt or a real-hurt?” I mocked.
“Real hurt, thank you. So, do you really mean it? I mean, the love thing?”
“Yes, and please don’t make me say it again. It was hard enough the first eight times.”
“Well, excuse me for not taking the time out of my day to learn six foreign languages. Unlike some people.”
“I didn’t. I honestly had no idea what language I was speaking. It was weird.”

                                                           ****
It was getting closer and closer to the winter break. I had plans to go Skiing with Tegan and Jade, go to a Christmas party at Emily’s with Sara and Roxy, and spend ‘quality time’ with mom, Nate, Sarah, Katie, Anna, and Dave. My mom also thought it’d be a good idea for me to see my dad, but I was carefully avoiding the topic.

You see, a few years ago, my dad met this guy who believed in vampires. He was also a motivational speaker, so, using one of his speeches, he convinced my dad to spend the next three years searching for vampires. His girlfriend Kelly broke up with him, my mom got full custody of me and Nathen, and that was that. I used to talk to him on the phone, and every now and then we’d have lunch together, but I haven’t spent a Christmas with him in two years.

I mean, think of it this way. If I told him I was a vampire, he might go get his vervain. That I could deal with. Now, if I told him that I was dating a 16/325 year old vampire who used to work for an evil dude and can read minds, well, he just might go inside and get his wooden stakes AND his shotgun (you know how it is with fathers and their daughter’s boyfriends…).

Anyways, my mom kept insisting I go, and I just kept telling her that he’s crazy and I don’t feel exactly safe around him. But she kept giving me that look that says “my way or the highway”, so I cracked and promised I would go for two hours on Christmas Day.
                                                ****
“Hey, Kieyra, wanna be my partner in gym?” Sara tapped me on the shoulder from her desk, which was behind mine.
“Um, yeah, sure.” In gym class we were doing Badminton, so we had to pick partners. Badminton was always one of my favorite sports, because it was a sport where you got to hit a little ball thingy with a racket.

After we set up the nets and got our rackets, Mrs. Stewart got called down to the office for something and told us all to just practice for five minutes until she got back. We all started playing an impromptu game with everyone together, which would have been unsafe if Mrs. Stewart hadn’t provided us with ‘protective goggles’. We heard the door open and close, and then I heard and saw what had to be impossible.

“Can I join?” Sylvie’s voice pounded in my ears. How was she here? We made sure she couldn’t get out! Katie and I exchanged looks.
“Sorry I haven’t been here for awhile. I was kind of tied up in something.” Sylvie winked at me and smirked. I went over to her, grimacing.
“What are you doing here?” I snarled.
“Keeping an eye on you.” Sylvie replied, picking up a racket and Birdie.
“I’ll tell you what. We’ll play against each other, one-on-one. If you win, I’ll leave. But if I win…You never speak to Alec ever again. Are you in?” I thought about this. If I won, no more problems. If I lost, no more Alec.
“Fine then. Let’s go.” Our classmates cheered for us as we took our places on the court.
“Okay, here are the ground rules. There are no boundaries. The whole gym is our court. If it hits the ground on your side, I get a point, and vice versa. First one to five points wins.” Okay, that seemed easy enough. Five points. I could do that.
“Who gets first serve?” I asked.
“Well, because I know you’re gonna lose, you can go first.”
“Fine then, but I won’t lose.”
“We’ll see about that.” I served the birdie over the net. Sylvie hit it so fast I couldn’t even see it until it hit me in the face, making my nose bleed. Sylvie giggled.
“One point for me.” I scowled, realizing that this wasn’t just a Badminton match, it was a deadly Badminton match. Where were Mrs. Stewart’s protective goggles when you needed them? It was Sylvie’s turn to serve now. This time, when the birdie came flying at my face, I quickly hit it back. It flew right past Sylvie, the plastic part cutting her arm.
“Lucky shot.” She said, frowning. Alyson Levine ran across the gym screaming “one all!” at the top of her lungs, as if it were necessary. It seemed the kids in my class were dividing themselves into “Team Sylvie” and “Team Kieyra”. The people on my team were my friends and most of the guys in my class, while Sylvie’s team was Alyson, Monica, Hannah W., Hannah K., Ric Mayfield, Serena Auger, and Reagan Silver. You would have thought that there were more people on my team, but in truth most of the guys had left for an early lunch and Sara, Emily, Roxy, and Tegan were about ready to.

The game was getting pretty intense. The score was 4-all (as Alyson had clearly announced to the entire world) and it seemed the rally between me and Sylvie for the final point would never end. We were all cut up, and my body ached, but I couldn’t stop playing. This was a matter of death or...Alec, really, and I wasn’t exactly in the mood to give up the one thing (or person) I loved the most.
“Prepare to lose, Gordon.”
“Prepare to eat your words, French.” I was not going to lose. I wouldn’t. I couldn’t. With all the anger built up from thinking about losing Alec, I hit the birdie so hard it flew past Sylvie and dented the wall, falling to the ground.

I had won.

“Winning point to Kieyra!” Alyson shouted. Furious, Sylvie shoved Alyson into the wall.
“Well, fine then. I’ll leave. But Damien did give me a message for you.” I immediately dropped my racket and my expression turned serious.
“What message?” Sylvie chuckled, putting away her racket and our blood-soaked birdie. She came over and put her lips really close to my ear, her breath turning the blood in my veins to ice as she spoke.
“Game on.”

“Sylvie! Nice of you to finally join us! Where have you been?”
“Oh, I was out of the country for a few weeks with family. They were all so glad that the police found me that they wanted to spend loads of time with me in case I went missing again.” Yeah, right. Like anyone would actually care if you went missing, I thought.
“Well, it’s great that you’re back. Why don’t you pair up with Patty and chose who you want to play against?”
“Sure, Mrs. Stewart. I choose…Sara and Kieyra!” Sylvie giggled.
“great! Is that okay with you, Sara and Kieyra?” I wanted to say no, but before I could, Sylvie said Of course they’re okay with it! Kieyra and I are best friends, aren’t we, Kieyra?”
“Yeah, sure.” I said, which translated into “no way in hell!” in teenage girl speak. Of course, Mrs. Stewart didn’t understand this unheard of language and let Sylvie and Patty play against us. As we started the game, Sylvie went easy on me and Sara. But after awhile, when the score was 14-8 (for us), she started to do better and better. By the middle of the game, it was basically me VS Sylvie, with Sara and Patty watching the game like a couple of cats watching someone wave a string back and forth. Neither of us was even scoring points anymore; it was just a never ending rally.
“Sylvie, can we give up now, please? I want to go to lunch, and we already know that half of the class is already at lunch; the other half’s just watching us. Even Sara and Patty have given up.” We looked over to see Kayleigh, a girl from the other class, bringing Patty and Sara a bag of popcorn.
“No way. If I can’t have Alec, then I should at least be able to hold the title of ‘Ultimate Eighth Grade Badminton Player’.”
“Why is winning so important to you? I just don’t get it!”
“Because Damien said I always have to win. He says it’s what our kind do. And speaking of Damien, he told me to give you a message.” The birdie came flying at me, but I let it fall to the ground.
“What message?” I asked, suddenly serious. I dropped my racket.
“Only two words.”
“What two words?” Sylvie chuckled, handing her Badminton Racket to Mrs. Stewart.
“Game on.”

Fun Hole Facts

Here are some facts about the hole-enjoy!

-KEIRA(no "y") Gordon was the name of a character in a story I wrote when I was ten.
-"The Hole" started in grade seven when I had a dream I was at my old babysitter's house and one of the volturi was coming to babysit my babysitter's kids, me, and my little brother. Suddenly I was a vampire and had to save them.
-Alec was the second of the two characters I kept from my original dream
-in one version of The Hole, the hole was in my friend Teagan's backyard.
-in one version of the hole, I swapped Alec for Damon Salvatore(of The Vampire Diaries) to feed my TVD obsession, though this ended in a failure.
-every version before this included the "Volturi" from twilight.
-in a previous version of the hole's apparent sequel, I made it so that this guy I liked was my boyfriend, but then when I stopped liking him I made a third Hole where I dumped him for Damon Salvatore (yet again)
-this is possibly the only version of the hole that I couldn't be sued for.

Chapter 19-That Crazy L Word

It had been a month since I had broken up with Alec. He had tried to apologize a few times at school, but after I kept ignoring him (and changed my relationship status back to single) he finally stopped coming to school. I’ve seen him places, but we didn’t talk or anything. Jade’s been tutoring me in French (I finally gave in), and I’m catching on pretty fast. I’ve learned how to say I hate you (je vous hais), I’ll never forgive you (je ne vous pardonnerai jamais) and you’re an idiot (vous êtes un imbécile). Also, I learned some things I’m not planning on telling Jade, like I still have feelings for you (j’ai encore des sentiments pour toi), I think about you all the time (je pense à toi tout le temps), and I hate that I miss you ( Je désteste que tu me manques).

Ugh.

To make things even worse, we had a substitute teacher today. You’re probably wondering what’s so bad about that, but obviously you don’t have a ridiculously spelled name like “Kieyra”, so don’t judge, because you don’t know what it’s like to have someone try to pronounce your name. First she pronounced it “k-eye-rah”, and then “K-ee-rah”, so I had to tell her “Mrs. Teacher person, it’s actually “keey-ehr-ah”.” It was incredibly awkward.

On a happier note, I’m no longer failing French class! I got a C on my last test, which basically is a pass! Yay!

When I got into my room after school, the window was open. I figured I must’ve left it open when I left for school this morning, but then I saw a note with my name written on it. I picked it up and sat on my bed.

Dear Kieyra,
I know I haven’t talked to you for weeks, but this is sort of important. Not like, life-or-death important, but it’s important to me. I think there’s something you should know. Well, actually, a few things. First of all, I DO NOT THINK YOU’RE KATHERINE. I kinda had to write that a little more boldly because you probably wouldn’t believe me otherwise, not that you even believe me now. What happened with Katherine was a total mistake. She’s a heartless dirty cheater with no regard for anyone’s feeling but her own and, quite frankly, she’s annoying. But since I’m pretty sure bashing Katherine in the rest of this letter isn’t going to amount to anything, so I’ll stop while I’m ahead. Anyway, this is about how I was wrong. I put that in bold too just for prove that, yes, us guys can say we’re wrong sometimes. And there’s something I’ve really wanted to tell you since about the beginning of October. It’s kind of awkward, and you might be creeped out and never want to see me again. The chances of you feeling this way towards me is about 1 in a million, but I’m just going to say it anyways. I love you. I would have said it to your face, but I figured this would be less awkward for the both of us. If I see you again, I might say it to your face. But right now I’m thinking of leaving forever, because It’ll be easier on you. But if you want to see me before then, leave a note here telling me so. Well, that’s all I guess.
~Alec~
I wasn’t exactly sure what to do, so I called Jade.

“Whoa. That’s, like, deep. Like, really deep.” Jade put down the letter. It was kind of hard to explain over the phone, so I told her to come over and let her read the letter.
“Yup.” I replied.
“Are you okay?”
“I can’t feel my hands. Or my arms. Or my legs. Help me. I think I’m going into shock.”
“I would, but there’s no cure.” My mom came in.
“What’s going on in here?” My semi-trance broke and I stuffed the letter in my pillowcase.
“Nothing, mom. We’re just talking.” My mom just stood there, staring at us. “You can go now, mom.”
“Right. Nice to see you again, Jade.”
“Nice to see you too, Ms. G.” Jade smiled awkwardly and my mom left. I shut (and locked) my door.
“So, what are you going to do?” Jade asked.
“I don’t know.” I whined. I fell back on my bed and pulled my pillow over my face.
“How do you feel about this?”
“How do I feel about what?”
“About the letter. About Alec.”
“Okay, Dr. Phil.” I said. Jade laughed.
“ Seriously, though. How do you feel?”
“I don’t know!”
“How can you not know?”
“I just don’t.” Jade hit her head against the wall.
“This is hopeless. You are hopeless.” She sighed, falling back on my bed beside me.
“Well, you should at least talk to him. Maybe then you’ll realize how you truly feel.”
“I doubt it. I’ve seen him enough times, and I never figured out that I liked him until you told me. Now, love, that’s another story.” Jade pulled the pillow off of my face.
“Can you at least try to explain how you feel?” I tried to think, but all my thoughts were gibberish.
“il me rend heureux.” I said, but I wasn’t exactly sure what I said. Jade’s eyes widened.
“What?” I asked.
“You were just speaking French.” She said.
“Was I? what did I say?”
“You said ‘he makes me happy’.”
“Did I?”
“Yes. Continuer s’il vous plait.”
“what?”
“Please continue. Maybe saying it in French would help, if you can’t find the word to say in English.”
“But I won’t know what I’m saying!”
“Exactly! You’ll say how you feel, and then I’ll tell you what you said.”
“Um…okay? Je veux être avec il toujours, et je pense que je l’aime, c’est juste que je ne said pas comment dire ça.” Jade smiled.
“What?” I asked. She shook her head, chuckling to herself.
“What did I say?” Jade hugged me.
“Exact words or abridged version?” she asked.
“Exact words, please.”
“Okay, you said ‘I want to be with him forever, and I think that I love him, it’s just that I don’t know how to say it.’” Jade giggled.
“Okay, so we’ve cleared that up. Now what do I do?”
“Talk to him!!!!”
“How am I supposed to do that knowing what I know?”
“Just try.” After that, Jade and I tried to write back to Alec. Some of our rough drafts looked a little like this:

Dear Alec,
I think we really need to talk. It’s pretty important, and I think that I might possibly love you

Alec,
I want you to know that I’m in lo

Hey,
I’m not sure what to say here but I really think that I might love you and it’s kinda freaking me out and

Alec,
Dude I’m a mess please I need to talk to you come back I frigging love you

Hi Alec,
It’s Kieyra umm well this is really kinda awkward and stupid

Dear Alec,
I need you here. I miss you and I’m pretty sure I love you too

After all that, Jade and I finally decided on this:

Alec,
We need to talk.
~Kieyra~
Ps. Jade helped write this.
Pps. Jade says hi.
Ppps. I’m not sure if adding more ‘p’ s to Ps. Is actually proper, so forgive me if it’s not.

After we left the letter folded upon top of his and wrote ‘Alec’ in big letters on it, we went out for smoothies downtown. On my way home, I got a text.

From: 0123456789
You wanted to talk?
~Alec
Jade peered over my shoulder at the text and grinned.
“Text him back.”
“Do I have to?”
“Yes, yes you do.” I rolled my eyes and texted back:
Yeah.
~K

From:0123456789
Meet me at the park near your house?
~A

Before I could object, Jade took my phone and replied ‘yes’.
“Now, go.” She pointed her finger in the direction of the park.
“But what if I can’t say it?”
“Good luck with that, Cherie.” She waved and turned onto our street. I headed to the park. What if I didn’t make it back alive? Should I have left a note? Oh yeah, that would have been the right thing. Dear mom, I’m out professing my love to some 326 year old vampire. Love, Kieyra. That wouldn’t freak her out at all.

Alec was waiting at the park, looking a little on-edge.
“Hey.” I said.
“Hi.” he replied. I tried to block my thoughts by thinking random words like “elephant” and “poop deck”.
“What was it you wanted to say?” he asked. I was too focused on protecting my thoughts to say anything. Elephant. Poop deck. Land ho. Argh! I’m a pirate! Cheese. If a priest goes to the bathroom, it really is holy crap.
“Please don’t go away forever.” I finally said, looking at my feet.
“Why shouldn’t I?”
“Because I want you to stay.”
“Not good enough.” He started to walk away.
“Because I need you here.”
“Still not good enough.”
“Because I…I…” I couldn’t say it.
“Because you what?”
“Forget it.”
“No, what was it?”
“I…I mean…” my brain was freezing up. Then I remembered what had happened earlier, when I didn’t know what to say, and I started talking in French. I let my “international-subconscious” take over.
“Ich lieb dich.” That didn’t even sound human.
“Were you just talking in German? Can you say whatever it was in English, please?”
“Szeretlek.” I think that was Hungarian, though I could never be sure.
“What?”
“Eu te amo.” Portuguese.
“What????”
“Ti amo.” Italian.
“Can you please say something in human words???”
“Te amo.” Spanish.
“Okay, what are you trying to tell me?”
“Je t’aime.” French.
“WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU SAYING????” It was then that I realized I had run out of languages. Crap.  Stupid damn crazy L word. Why couldn’t I just say it? I had nothing to lose? Why was I so afraid? I swallowed my pride and prepared my self for every possible outcome to what I was about to say.
“I said, I love you.”

Chapter 18- You’re Running Out Of Chances.

“So, why are you here?” I asked Katie. We were dragging Sylvie somewhere to be locked up so she couldn’t cause trouble.
“To save your sorry butt.” Katie replied, smiling. We hadn’t talked very much since I got back from London.
“What makes you think I need saving?”
“Please. She would have killed you and Alec in less than thirty seconds if I hadn’t saved you.” She turned to Alec.
“Ahem.”
“Thank you, Katie.” Alec rolled his eyes at her.

We locked Sylvie in an old shack, boarded up all the windows, nailed shut the doors, and just for good measure, put pots full of vervain all around on the inside (BEFORE we did all the aforementioned stuff) and the outside.

“So much for a great 13th birthday.” I grumbled as we were walking back to where my friends were. It’s not like I really needed much of a celebration. Vampire years are a lot different than human years, and besides, I’m more mature than most of the girls my age anyways. You see, I know what I want to do in life. I know who I am. The only thing I don’t know is how to whistle properly, but that’s not the point. I’ll learn…eventually.
“It’s your birthday?” Alec asked. “Why didn’t you say anything?”
“I didn’t feel it was important.” I shrugged.
“How is that not important?”
“It just isn’t. I mean, have you ever told me when your birthday is? Have you told me anything about you?”
“Well, not exactly.”
“How is it fair that you can hear everything I’m thinking, know everything about me, but you won’t even tell me your birthday, or your favorite color, or even your last name!?”
“Kieyra-”
“Whatever.” I found my friends and walked off with them.

After Tegan, Emily, Roxy, and Sara left, I was sitting in my room with Jade, who didn’t have to go home until she felt like it. There was a tap at my window. It started quietly, but then it got louder and louder, and then a familiar voice called “I know you’re in there, Kieyra. Please let me talk to you.” I sighed and went over to the window to let Alec in.
“What do you want?”
“A second chance.”
“More like sixth.” Jade corrected.
“Sixth?” I asked.
“Yeah. The second chance was after he locked you in a dungeon, the third was after he saw you in the tomb talking to Katherine, the fourth was after you got mad at him when he came to see you before you went away to London, and the fifth was after he told you about his Telepathy.” I thought about it, also trying to remember why the hell I’d told her about all that stuff.
“Second chance, sixth chance, whatever. I want to make it up to you.”
“Oh? And how would you suppose you could do that?” he sighed.
“My birthday is December 21st, my favorite color is green, and my last name is Phillips. For the rest of today, I’ll tell you everything you want to know about me. Please.”
“Say yes, damn it!” Jade said.
“Fine, but I’m still mad at you.”
“And you have every right to be. Meet me outside the school after Jade goes home.”
“Okay.” Alec left. Jade started making kissing noises at me and I threw a pillow in her face.
“Have fun with votre petit ami.” Jade said.
“Huh?”
“It’s French for your boyfriend. Look it up.”
“You know French?”
“I lived in France for a year. And now, I have to go to where I live now. Home. Goodbye, Cherie.
“Doesn’t that mean girlfriend?”
“No, it means dear. Girlfriend is petite amie. That was a test. If you paid a speck of attention in French class, you would know that.” I rolled my eyes, remembering that I was failing French.
“Well if you ever need a tutor…”
“I don’t.”
“Whatever you say.”  Jade had been bugging me about this failing French business for awhile now, and it was starting to get annoying. If I needed a tutor, I would go out and find one myself. I didn’t need her help to learn foreign languages.

When I got to the school, it looked as though Alec was about to leave.
“I thought you wouldn’t show.” He said.
“I always keep my word. I’m not a liar.” I said, emphasizing the word “liar”.
“Neither am I.”
“Let’s just see about that.” We started to walk down the sidewalk.
“So, I get to ask you any question?”
“Anything appropriate.”
“Define ‘appropriate’.”
“Don’t ask me anything stupid. If it sounds stupid in your head-and I’ll tell you if it does-don’t say it, okay?”
“um…okay. First question. How old are you? Really, I mean.”
“ three hundred and twenty five years old, three hundred and twenty six in December.”
“Ay. Okay, how old were you when you turned?”
“Sixteen.”
“Yow.”
“What?”
“Never mind.” That’s three years age difference. Crap. He heard that.
“Three hundred and thirteen as of December twenty-first, actually.” Bigger yow.
“Can you start asking non-age related questions?” he asked.
“Gladly. Okay, do you have any siblings?”
“Define ‘siblings’.”
“Um, brothers, sisters…etcetera…”
“It’s complicated.”
“Try me.”
“Okay, well I had a little sister, but she died when I was ten, and I have a brother whom I don’t talk to.”
“Whom you don’t talk to? So he’s a vampire?”
“Yeah. We haven’t spoken since 1701, though. His name’s Gavin. We’re twins.”
“Fun. Why did you stop talking to each other?”
“Damien recruited me. He wanted Gavin to come too, but he refused. He believed Damien was evil. Of course, I did too, but he gave me the same spiel he gave Sylvie, I’m guessing. Rule the world forever.”
“You were evil?”
“For about ten years, me and Damien worked together to try to be rulers. But somehow, every plan failed, and Damien was starting to get crueler to not only me but everyone. His partner, Ophelia, Ana, Antoine, Lukas, even the slaves. That’s when I started to realize how evil he truly was, and how I didn’t want to be like that. I went to him and told him I wanted to leave, but he didn’t let me and locked me in the dungeon for three weeks before I agreed to stay.”
“Wow. Then what happened?”
“That’s when Katherine and Isobel came, and you know the story from there.”
“How did Katherine and Isobel get into The Hole?”
“I blame myself for that, actually. I was out running errands for Damien when she saw me, and started talking to me, and then when I told her I had to leave she followed me and fell in. She was a vampire, so it didn’t hurt her at all, but I had to help Isobel so she wouldn’t fall. After Damien took them as slaves, Isobel’s family started looking for her; her husband and three daughters, along with Isobel’s sister, Mariana. Mariana was already a vampire; that’s how Isobel and Katherine met. Mariana was friends with Katherine.  Mariana and Isobel had already discussed a plan that if any harm were to come to Isobel, Mariana would change her family into vampires to assure nothing bad would happen to them.” We stopped at a park bench and sat down. Someone tapped me on the shoulder, making me jump. It was Katherine.
“Talking about me, Alec?”
“Not now, Katherine.”
“Well did you tell her everything? Did you tell her about 1700? Did you tell her about Gavin? Did you tell her about us?”
“Katherine!”
“I’m taking that as a no.” wait a minute- Katherine knew Gavin? And what did she mean by us?
“What about 1700? What about you and Katherine?”
“It’s not important.”
“Really, Alec? I thought we were over the whole “not important” thing.” I crossed my arms.
“He didn’t tell you?”
“TELL ME WHAT????”
“I was the one who turned him in 1700.”
“Katherine, you don’t need to-”
“No, Alec, I think she needs to know. I used to be his girlfriend.” We remained silent for a few minutes.
“what?” I asked, though it was meant as a rhetorical question. Katherine disappeared. I turned to Alec.
“It doesn’t matter.”
“Yes, Alec, it does matter. Who am I to you?”
“No, Kieyra, it’s not like that.”
“Well, right now it sure looks like it.”
“I can explain.”
“Oh, can you? Humor me.”
“well…okay, maybe I can’t explain. But I don’t see you as Katherine!”
“You wanted a second chance. Well, Alec, this isn’t the way to get one.” I ran home crying. Jade was on her porch and saw me.
“Hey, what’s wrong?” when I didn’t respond, she ran over and followed me into my house and upstairs to my room.
“What did he do?” she asked. I didn’t know how to explain it at all.
“Katherine’s his ex.” I blubbered.
“You think he’s only with you because you look like her?” I nodded.
“Oh, Cherie.” She hugged me.

Alec kicked the tree beside his apartment building. He hadn’t meant for Kieyra to find out about Katherine, he really hadn’t. Katherine appeared beside him.
“What do you want?” he asked angrily.
“Ouch. That hurts, Phillips. It really does. Hurts my heart.”
“What heart? You’re a heartless jerk with no regard for anyone’s feelings but your own. Always have been. Why do you think I broke up with you?”
“Because I was all over your brother.” Katherine chuckled.
“And you did it because you’re an evil heartless jerk.”
“Your point being…”
“My point being that I hate you, and always will.”
“Oh, that’s a lie. You love me. You always loved me.”
“I never loved you. None of it was real.”
“Of course, because you’re totally into Kieyra. I mean, it’s not like we look alike or anything.” He felt like killing Katherine right then and there.
“Why are you trying to get her back? Why waste your time? Oh, yeah, I forgot. You “love” her. Dude, you can’t love her.”
“And the reason would be?”
“She’s thirteen. Thirteen year olds can’t be in love. And she’ll be thirteen forever, so even if you do love her, she’ll never feel the same. And telling her would just freak her out, so…Well, I guess it’s your decision.”

Chapter 17- Sylvie French, Birthday Ruiner

    It had been a week since Sylvie’s return, and it was finally the week of my thirteenth birthday. I wasn’t planning to do much; just have a sleepover and go out trick-or-treating with Emily, Sara, Tegan (who was apparently no longer mad at me for reasons I don’t know), Roxy, and Jade, who was forced to bring her sister Elena. Jade and I were dressed up as vampires (as an inside joke), Tegan was a piece of pizza, Sara was her older brother, Emily was “Larry The Hydro One Dude”, Roxy was…something with ears and a tail…and Elena was a princess. I mean, I know you’re probably thinking we’re too old for this, but you can’t put an age limit on free candy. We even made a list of Halloween rules:
1: Everyone runs to every house.
2: two knocks on the door and thirty seconds before we leave.
3: no stopping to look for where we are.
4: no stopping to check the time.
5: no trying to find rich neighborhoods where they give out bigger candy, because bigger doesn’t always mean more.
6: bring other masks so people won’t remember if you’ve been there or not and revisit all houses after people start to go home for the night
7: if you stay behind to tie your shoelaces, we’re leaving you behind.
8: if you stop to talk to an old friend, we’re leaving you behind.
9: if you are slowing us down, we’re leaving you behind.
10: MOST IMPORTANT RULE, use Kieyra’s Birthday as an asset to get more candy.

It’s not like the candy is important to me, because it’s really not, but I don’t know what I would do without all that extra sugar to bribe Nathen with.

After we had each filled two bags of candy (except for Elena, who had three because she acted cute) we went to bring Elena home. Then we went back to my house to get all of the makeup off our faces so we could go take a “haunted walk” at Ryan’s house.

Apparently, once Ryan and Chris were walking in the forest when they saw the ghost of a farmer who told them to run away and never come back. I’m not sure if it’s true, but for the last few years they’d been inviting their entire grade over to take a haunted walk every Halloween late at night.

Ryan lived in the outskirts of Carleton Place, a few doors down from Sam. Every now and then he got out of school to go “chain sawing” with his dad, and he told stories about things that happened at his house all the time. I was kind of excited to see Ryan’s house, more because it was apparently haunted than the fact that Ryan lived there.

Ryan’s house was an old, huge log house that had been made sometime in the 1950’s. On the inside there were a lot of (literally) stuffed animals. I didn’t stay in there long. There must have been people from Ryan’s sister’s school there too, because there were a bunch of ten or eleven year old girls running around, pretending Ryan and his friends had cooties. After about fifteen minutes, Ryan, Chris and Sam told everyone to follow Ryan to the barn. The barn was old, and the floorboards were creaky. Jade was really excited because she hadn’t been invited to a lot of things, and my other friends were starting to get annoyed with her. I bet this was how Roxy felt when I was around her other friends.

After the barn were the woods, and after the woods was a long, dark trail. I had to admit it, it was pretty creepy. Then something occurred to me. Where was Sylvie? I could have sworn I saw her earlier with Emmy Oldfield, Austin Kane, Allen Perry and Patty Wilkinson. I turned to Tegan.
“Hey, have you seen Sylvie?” I asked.
“I saw her earlier with Emmy and Patty. She said she had to go do something, and I haven’t seen her since then.”
“What were her exact words?”
“Something like ‘I have to go take care of some business’, which didn’t seem like something she would say, but she hasn’t been the same since she came back.”
“Tegan, Sylvie never should have made it back.” I said.
“What do you mean?”
“I mean she fell in The Hole.”
“And by ‘fell’ you mean…”
“Pushed. And she should have died. She was supposed to die.”
“Does that mean she’s a-”
“Yeah. And she has powers too.”
“Like what?”
“She can cause searing pain by looking at you. She’s strong, Tegan. Stay out of her way, and if you must talk to her, talk very briefly.”
“Gotcha.” Suddenly something pulled me away from my friends and into the forest.
“I thought I told you to cooperate.” Sylvie glared at me, hitting me across the face. I fell to the ground.
“I don’t want to. I’m not afraid of you.” I lied.
“You’re being stupid to defy me.”
“You’re being stupid in thinking that you’re going to get something out of this.” She laughed evilly.
“Damien has promised that I will spend an eternity as a powerful ruler.”
“He’s using you.”
“Who cares? I don’t care about Damien, I care about Alec. I want him.”
“You can’t have him. People aren’t possessions. You can’t own them. This isn’t your world, Sylvie, this is reality.”
“But it will be my world, and in my world me and Alec will rule together for all of eternity.”
“First of all,” I said, getting up off of the ground, “It’s ‘Alec and I’. And second of all, there is no Alec and You. There never will be an Alec and You.”
“Shut up!” she threw me farther into the forest. There was a sickening crack as my spine hit a rock.
“Leave her the hell alone!” Alec came out of nowhere and pinned Sylvie to a tree.
“Join me, and we could spend all of eternity together. We could rule the world. Come to the dark side.” Sylvie said.
“The only problem with that idea is that I don’t want to spend eternity with you. Quite frankly, I don’t want to spend five minutes with you.” Sylvie chuckled.
“Wrong answer.” Sylvie gave Alec that weird stare and he fell down in pain.
“Alec!” I screamed. Sylvie ignored me.
“Last chance to change your mind. Just remember, you aren’t on the list of people I can’t kill.” She smirked.
“Stop it, you’re hurting him!”
“Your time is running out. Tick, tock, tick, tock.”
“I said, STOP IT!” I picked up a rock and threw it at Sylvie’s head. She started running towards me, but then surprisingly screamed and fell to the ground, face first. My quasi-stepsister Katie appeared, smiling.
“You can thank me later.”
